TLT-SWG INFO OPTIONS - Same info in complementary forms

INTRODUCTORY EXPLANATIONS:  Listserv & Blog   Feeds & Podcasts
Blogger   Bloglines   iTunes as Podcatcher   Other Feed Reader/Aggregator Options

You may visit the TLT-SWG blog as often as you like.  You can receive updates via feeds or the TLT-SWG listserv.  You can download and listen to individual audio recordings or subscribe to them as podcasts through iTunes, etc.  The same TLT-SWG information is available via each of these complementary formats, generated automatically for your convenience:

TLT-SWG Listserv, Blog
TLT-SWG information is distributed initially and simultaneously through both:
  • TLT-SWG Listserv
Highly moderated by Steven W. Gilbert since its inception in 1994.  You can receive email messages distributed automatically (singly or grouped in "digests").  You can contribute responses to topics, questions and see them incorporated in later email messages.  No spam.

  • TLT-SWG Blog
Visit this Webpage, read full text versions, add your own comments (anonymously if you wish).  Comments are rarely deleted or edited.  This blog was created and is run by Blogger - a free Web-based service.  You can learn more about Blogger's recent developments, upgrades, outages, etc. at
    http://status.blogger.com/

TLT-SWG Feeds & Podcasts
To be notified automatically of new TLT-SWG information, you can choose one or more of these options.  You can also automatically receive full file versions or excerpts.  All are automatically generated from what is posted to the TLT-SWG blog.  You need to use a "feed reader" [see NOTE2 & NOTE3 below] to receive these notifications or files.
  •   Subscription [Feed]
Receive notification of new materials AND/OR receive copies of new audio files automatically downloaded onto your own computer.  This link goes to a Web page that includes options for most commonly used feed formats - RSS, Atom, etc.- those that deliver only text as well as those that include audio files - Podcasts.

  •       iTunes Podcast Subscription
Receive notification of new materials AND receive copies of new audio files through iTunes;  and get new audio files downloaded to your iPod or MP3 player automatically when you synchronize it with your computer via iTunes.

  •
          Feed Problem?
Having a problem subscribing to a feed for TLT-SWG?

If one of the links for a TLT-SWG "feed" produces an error message, try this.  Copy and paste one of the following 2 URLs into the appropriate place in your feed reader or news aggregator:
    http://tlt-swg.blogspot.com/atom.xml
or, for more feed options (including iTunes), try:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/TLT-SWG

*"DIY-LTA" = Do It Yourself - Low-Threshold Applications/Activities - Looking for more/better/simpler!

[I'm looking for EXTREMELY SIMPLE, RELIABLE options to explain/recommend - or better yet - to link to someone else's really clear explanation of how to create your own integrated set of Listserv, Blog, Feed, Podcast, Shared Planning Document, YouTube videos, Regular Live Session, ...  Steve Gilbert 8-20-2006]

NOTES ABOUT TOOLS FOR CREATING, SUBSCRIBING TO, AND MANIPULATING FEEDS
For additional introductory and related resources, also see:   www.tltgroup.org/blogs.htm

Note1:  Blogger to create feeds
You need a tool to create "feeds" if you want others to be able to "subscribe" to your blog or Web page.  Blogger can automatically create a feed for you.

Note2:  Bloglines - Free News Aggregator [Feed Reader]
You need a tool (alternative labels with slightly different meanings:  "news aggregator," "RSS reader," "feed reader," feed aggregator," or "news reader") if you want to receive "feeds" like the ones above;  i.e., you need a tool to help you:
a)  choose among Web resources that offer feed subscriptions
b)  choose HOW and WHEN you want to be notified of new info from these sources.

Bloglines is one option I recommend.  See http://www.bloglines.com/
"...Bloglines is a FREE online service for searching, subscribing, creating and sharing news feeds, blogs and rich web content. With Bloglines, there is no software to download or install -- simply register as a new user and you can instantly begin accessing your account any time, from any computer or mobile device."

Some of these tools work when installed on your own computer.  Other news aggregators, such as Bloglines, offer their services from a "server" on the Web, so that you can use them by directing any computer to the appropriate Web site.

SEE NOTE5 BELOW FOR MORE FEED READER/ NEWS AGGREGATOR OPTIONS

Note3:  iTunes as a "podcatcher"
A podcatcher is a "feed reader" with the capability of receiving feeds that include audio files.

iTunes is one option I recommend.  See:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/

"...iTunes automatically downloads each new episode as it becomes available. ... Every podcast on the iTunes Music Store is free. With the click of a button, you get the most recent episode — and all future episodes — automatically delivered directly to your iTunes podcast playlist. ..."  and automatically loaded to your iPod/MP3 player if you wish.

Note4:  Use Feed2JS to create table of contents
Feed2JS, developed by Alan Levine, is a free Web-based tool for manipulating feeds in other ways.  It was used to create an automatically updated Web page for the TLT-SWG "Table of Contents" at:
http://www.tltgroup.org/tlt-swg/contents.htm

For access to Feed2JS, see:

http://www.tltgroup.org/feed/build.php

Note5:  YouTube as "Channel" for Distributing Video Recordings

"YouTube is an online video streaming service that allows anyone to view and share videos that have been uploaded by our members." - from Web site 3/28/2007.  See help info available at:
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/
